My next portrait subject is another much loved Christmas movie character. It’s one of my very favorite holiday movies. It’s funny, sweet and old fashioned. It RALPHIE from A CHRISTMAS STORY .
This was such a classic movie scene when Ralphie has to try on his pink bunny costume gifted to him from his well meaning but misguided Aunt Clara and says; “She thinks I’m a four year old girl”. Haven’t we all had that moment when we have given the completely wrong gift?! At least poor Aunt Clara wasn’t there to witness her blunder:)
There was so much hidden color in the shadows of his face.
His eyes were really covered in shadow in the reference photo so I had to improvise that Peter Billingsly blue. The glasses were super fun to work on, especially the highlights.
The ears were a challenge as I really struggled to find a brown that blended with the coral color to create the shadow in the ear. I still think it could stand to be blended a little more with a lighter shade of brown.
I spent hours on the suit. I used a combination of a seed stitch and french knots to create pills in the bunny costume. It made my finger bleed but it was worth it.
Well thanks for stopping by!
Wishing you all a wonderful happy and healthy holiday season and let’s hope for a better brighter 2021!!!
